Man United Renewal Talks with Harry Maguire Revealed: Ratcliffe Wants £80K-a-Week 1-Year Deal, Maguire Ready for Pay Cut — But Has His Limits

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have opened informal talks with Harry Maguire over a one-year contract extension. The 32-year-old defender, who scored the winning goal in the Red Devils’ 2–1 victory over Liverpool, has become a fan favourite once again — with supporters even joking about building his statue outside Old Trafford.

Although discussions are still at an early stage, Maguire wants clarity before the January transfer window, when he’ll be eligible to sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs. His decision to stay or leave could determine whether talks with Saudi Pro League teams progress further.

Sources suggest Maguire is eager to resolve his future quickly so he can focus purely on football. He still dreams of representing England at the 2026 World Cup, which will almost certainly be his final one, as he’ll be 37 by the next edition.

Despite being stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag last season, Maguire remains one of United’s key dressing-room leaders. Under new boss Rúben Amorim, he’s regained his status — and responded with crucial performances on the pitch.

Maguire is open to extending his stay and even accepting a pay cut, but there’s a clear gap between both parties.
Currently earning around £140,000 per week (down from £190K after a 25% reduction due to missing European competitions), Maguire and his camp are seeking at least £125,000 per week plus bonuses and a two-year deal. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team, however, prefers a one-year extension at £80,000 per week.

Externally, interest remains strong. Saudi giants Al Nassr and Al Ettifaq have both made enquiries, while New York Red Bulls from MLS have held exploratory talks. Saudi offers reportedly exceed £200,000 to £500,000 per week tax-free, but Maguire’s preference is to stay in the Premier League or another top European league.

For Maguire, this could be his last major contract. He’s keen to remain at Manchester United but won’t compromise too much financially. From United’s side, renewing him at a reduced rate not only secures leadership depth but also protects his resale value should he decide to move next summer.

Negotiations will be tough — but both sides know how valuable this decision could be for the club and the player alike.
