After Over Two Years Away, Paul Pogba Is Set for a Comeback — Monaco Debut Could Happen This Weekend

October 30 — According to Footmercato, French midfielder Paul Pogba is on the verge of making his long-awaited return to professional football. If all goes according to plan, the 32-year-old could be included in AS Monaco’s matchday squad this weekend, possibly featuring against newly promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC.

Pogba, who joined Monaco as a free agent this summer, has been sidelined for over two years following a doping suspension that was later reduced from four years to 18 months after appeal. His last official appearance dates back to September 4, 2023, when he came on as a substitute for Juventus in a 2–0 Serie A win over Empoli.

Since signing with Monaco in June, Pogba has undergone intensive training for more than three months, focusing primarily on rebuilding his fitness and rhythm. Determined to relaunch his career in Ligue 1, Pogba has impressed head coach Sébastien Pocognoli, who said:

“So far, everything is going well. I hope he can rejoin the team soon, but we’ll carefully assess his physical condition and how he adapts to the match tempo.”

Still, the Belgian coach remained realistic:

“We can’t expect the same Pogba from his Manchester United or first Juventus days. Every player evolves with age and experience. Our goal is to help him rediscover his best self within our project.”

Currently sitting second in Ligue 1, Monaco hopes Pogba’s return will inject leadership, creativity, and experience into the squad as they push for the title.

“He still has that trademark technical ability,” Pocognoli added. “The rhythm of competition will tell us more, but I truly believe he can reach a high level here.”
