Aluminum, once overshadowed by copper and rare earths, is now stealing the spotlight in global markets.
Prices have surged to $2,900 per ton, the highest in three years and within the top 5% of the past three decades.

🔹 Soaring Demand – EVs, solar power, and data centers drive consumption. An EV uses about 150 pounds more aluminum than a fuel car.
🔹 China’s Dominance – Producing nearly 60% of global output, China hit over 43 million tons last year, nearing its capacity ceiling.
🔹 Tight Supply – Europe’s smelters shut due to energy costs; global inventories hit record lows. Citi forecasts a 1.4 million-ton deficit by 2027.
🔹 Indonesia Rising – Chinese firms are building smelters there; by 2030, Indonesia could become the world’s 4th largest producer.

Bloomberg analysts say aluminum prices will likely rise moderately while the world grows more dependent on China’s supply chain.
In the age of electrification and green transition, aluminum is having its moment.
