Duan Yongping Responds to Donation of 10,000 Kweichow Moutai Shares: “The Annual Dividends Alone Are Enough for Them to Spend”

On November 2, IT Home reported that renowned investor Duan Yongping has once again made headlines for his remarkable philanthropy. On October 31, Duan donated 10,000 shares of Kweichow Moutai to the “Duan Ximing and His Wife Education Special Fund” at Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Electric Power, sparking widespread attention online. Responding to the public discussion, Duan modestly remarked on his personal account, “It’s just 10,000 shares of Moutai. The annual dividends alone are enough for them to use. The market value is only temporary.”

According to IT Home, the donation—valued at around 15 million RMB—was made to the university’s education development foundation under the names of Duan’s parents, establishing a dedicated education fund. This act follows his previous contribution in 2007, when he donated 5 million USD to build the Duan Ximing Library at the same institution, further strengthening his long-standing support for education.

Duan Yongping has a rich history of giving back to academia, especially to his alma mater, Zhejiang University. In 2022, to mark the university’s 125th anniversary, he donated 170 million RMB, followed by another 100 million RMB contribution later that year. Most recently, on December 31, 2023, Duan made yet another substantial donation to the Zhejiang University Education Foundation—bringing his cumulative contributions to over 1 billion RMB.

Through these acts of generosity, Duan continues to inspire the academic community with his deep commitment to education, philanthropy, and the belief that long-term value lies not in stock prices, but in nurturing future generations.
