On November 9, the final of the Snooker International Championship delivered a thrilling showdown between China’s rising star Wu Yize and veteran legend John Higgins. After 16 fiercely contested frames, Wu produced a sparkling display with four century breaks and four additional 50+ contributions to defeat Higgins 10–6, capturing the first ranking title of his career. He becomes the 10th Chinese player in history to win a ranking championship and breaks into the world’s top 16 for the first time.

The opening session saw Wu Yize quickly find his rhythm. With breaks of 86 and 62, he raced to a 2–0 lead. Higgins responded in the third frame with a superb 101 to get on the board, but Wu countered immediately with a brilliant 110 to head into the mid-session interval ahead 3–1.

Wu maintained his sharp form after the break, registering another century to extend his lead to 4–1. Higgins clawed one frame back before Wu hammered in a stunning 137, restoring his cushion at 5–2. Higgins then showed his resilience by taking the next two frames, narrowing Wu’s advantage to 5–4 at the end of the first session.

In the second session, Wu resumed command. He delivered breaks of 87 and 80 in the 10th and 12th frames, while pulling off a clutch comeback in the 11th to claim three consecutive frames and widen the margin to 8–4. Higgins battled hard and took the 13th frame with multiple scoring visits, trimming the deficit before the interval.

Back on the table, Wu seized his moment. He capitalized in the 14th frame to move up 9–5 and reach match point. Higgins resisted with a composed 53 in the 15th to stay alive at 6–9. But in the 16th frame, Wu would not be denied—he sealed the title with a precise 108, completing a memorable 10–6 victory.

A breakthrough performance, a historic triumph, and a new chapter for China’s young talent—Wu Yize has officially arrived on the world stage.
