Kwan Po-Wai Breaks Down in Tears While Filming “The Queen of News 2,” Reveals High-Pressure Scene Involving a Knife Confrontation with Tyson

After five years away from TVB, veteran actress Kwan Po-Wai made a guest appearance in the anniversary drama The Queen of News 2. Her single-episode performance immediately became the talk of the city.

Kwan plays “Sister Fen,” a woman overwhelmed by debt and pressured by a large maintenance fee, leading to an emotional breakdown. In one intense scene, she confronts a building management representative (played by Tyson) with a prop knife, creating a dramatic climax that impressed audiences. Viewers praised her powerful performance, though Kwan revealed that the shoot was physically demanding and emotionally exhausting.

In Episode 3, Sister Fen, already deep in debt, is told she must pay more than HK$300,000 for building repairs. Unable to cope, she breaks down during a meeting, screams in frustration, chases after the representative, and later engages in a high-stress confrontation with a kitchen knife prop. She then drags him to the rooftop, standing at the edge in extreme despair and yelling, “We’ll die together!”—a moment that left viewers on edge.

When she waits desperately for star anchor Man Wai-Sam (Charmaine Sheh) but learns she has left SNK, she collapses again, crying: “I want SNK’s Man Wai-Sam, not someone from another station!”

Kwan shared that filming the scenes was extremely draining:
“Shouting and crying repeatedly was tough. It felt like shooting an entire drama in just a few days.”

She also revealed that a real knife prop was used for close-up shots: “It made me nervous, but we rehearsed thoroughly.”

To portray the character’s emotional state authentically, she even requested no heavy makeup or touch-ups.

This appearance marks the first time in 25 years that Kwan Po-Wai and Charmaine Sheh have worked together since The Sword of Conquest, making their reunion nostalgic for longtime fans.
Kwan said she was thrilled: “We were friends back then, but life got busy. Meeting again felt both familiar and new.”
