(Singapore, 24th) A flight traveling from Hong Kong to Singapore experienced a small onboard fire shortly before landing when a passenger’s charger overheated. The cabin crew acted quickly to extinguish the flames, and the aircraft landed safely without injuries.
According to a video posted by Xiaohongshu user JaneZmmm, several Scoot flight attendants were seen gathered in the front aisle handling the situation, while other passengers remained calm and stayed seated.
She told the reporter from 8world News that she departed Hong Kong on Saturday night (22nd) for a holiday in Singapore. Around 8:49 p.m., as the plane was preparing to descend, she noticed a burning smell similar to overheated electronics and saw that flight attendants had already begun managing the incident.
She said the atmosphere in the cabin remained orderly and no panic broke out.
“About ten minutes later, the crew brought an extinguisher and ice water. Eventually, I saw a black laptop bag placed in a bucket of water and moved toward the back of the aircraft. It was still emitting a bit of smoke, but nothing severe.”
The plane landed at 9:07 p.m. After touchdown, passengers waited onboard for roughly 30 minutes while airport firefighters boarded for inspection. Flight attendants also checked if anyone felt unwell before allowing passengers to disembark.
She described seeing many staff members, firefighters, and medical personnel once she exited the plane. She admitted feeling scared at first because she did not know how serious the situation was, but seeing the crew staying composed and the front-row passengers remaining calm helped her relax. There were no visible flames and only light smoke and odor.
A Scoot spokesperson later confirmed the incident occurred on flight TR939 on November 22 and that a passenger’s charger overheated, causing a minor fire. The crew responded swiftly, and no one was injured.
As a precaution, airport emergency services were on standby upon arrival. The spokesperson added that the flight landed safely at 9:06 p.m., and all passengers and crew disembarked smoothly. Scoot apologized for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
