Samsung appears ready to finally fix one of Dark Mode’s longest-standing visual annoyances. According to a report published by Android Authority on November 27, One UI 8.5 is expected to address the issue of glaring white app icons that disrupt the night-time viewing experience.

For years, Samsung’s Dark Mode has successfully dimmed system interfaces, yet many apps with non-optimized bright icons continued to stand out harshly against the dark background, compromising visual harmony. This has been a common complaint among users seeking a fully immersive dark theme.

Fresh leaks now suggest that One UI 8.5 will directly tackle this problem with a system-level solution aimed at eliminating the awkward “black-and-white clash” on the home screen at night, finally creating a truly unified dark aesthetic.

A demo shared by Galaxy Techie on platform X shows One UI 8.5 implementing a forced adaptation of app icons to match the dark theme. This means that once the update rolls out, the system will automatically recolor icon backgrounds — even if third-party developers haven’t supplied dark-mode icon resources — using internal algorithms to keep everything visually consistent.

Beyond simply adjusting brightness, One UI 8.5 also refines Samsung’s icon design language. Early screenshots reveal icons gaining a subtle “micro-3D” aesthetic, complemented by soft drop-shadow treatments. This lines up with the “Samsung 3D icon experiment” that surfaced last month, suggesting a cohesive direction for future visuals.
