Mid-Range Down Jackets Hit 2,000 RMB: Price Barrier or Market Dilemma?

As temperatures drop nationwide, down jackets have become a winter essential. Recently, mid-range down jackets have seen prices exceed 2,000 RMB, sparking discussion. Popular brands such as Bosideng, The North Face, and Descente set 2,000 RMB as the starting price, with high-end models reaching 3,000–4,000 RMB.
Price hikes are driven by rising raw material costs, increased poultry farming expenses, and the cultivation of a “high price equals high quality” consumer mindset by premium brands. Meanwhile, consumers increasingly prioritize warmth, practicality, and design over brand prestige, while transparent information on social media has begun to dismantle brand myths.
Looking ahead, down jackets face competition from alternative winter wear, including double-faced wool coats, fleece jackets, and insulated cotton coats. High prices are no longer a necessity but a strategic challenge for brands. Consumers are willing to pay for real value but reject unreasonable premiums, which may push the down jacket industry toward more rational pricing.
