Serie A Round 17 delivered a pivotal clash as Inter Milan traveled to face Atalanta. Inter entered the match with 11 wins from their first 15 league games, firmly establishing themselves as one of the main title contenders. However, recent cup disappointments—defeats to Liverpool in the Champions League and Bologna in the Italian Super Cup—added pressure ahead of this league encounter. Against an Atalanta side valued at nearly €400 million, Inter edged out a narrow but crucial 1–0 victory.

Inter lined up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Marcus Thuram partnering Lautaro Martínez up front. Dimarco, Zieliński, Çalhanoğlu, Barella and Luis Henrique formed a five-man midfield, while Bastoni, Akanji and Bisseck anchored the defense. Yann Sommer started in goal, with Mkhitaryan, De Vrij and Frattesi among the substitutes.

Inter created several chances early on. Akanji saw a close-range effort blocked, while shots from Luis Henrique, Thuram and Lautaro were either saved or narrowly missed. Thuram had a goal ruled out for offside before halftime, leaving the score level at 0–0 at the break.

The second half proved chaotic, with Atalanta also seeing goals from De Ketelaere and Scamacca disallowed for offside. After a series of near misses, the breakthrough finally came in the 65th minute when Lautaro Martínez calmly slotted home to give Inter the lead. Atalanta pushed late for an equalizer but failed to convert their chances.

With the win, Inter moved to 36 points and reclaimed top spot in Serie A. AC Milan sit second with 35 points, followed by Napoli on 34 and Juventus on 32. With just four points separating the top four, the Serie A title race has become intensely competitive.
