In the first 16 Premier League matches this season, Manchester United has conceded 26 goals, exposing defensive vulnerabilities. The clean sheet against Newcastle on Boxing Day was largely due to Newcastle’s inefficiency. Sources reveal that the Red Devils are planning to reinforce the defense, with around 10 potential targets identified to ensure Amr’s 3-4-3 system is less vulnerable.

United’s focus is not only on wing-backs; central defenders have repeatedly struggled this season. Especially Lenny Joro, whose repeated mistakes have raised concerns about the three-center-back system. Transfer expert Dean Jones says United aims to sign an experienced center-back to stabilize the 3-4-3 system and prepare for European competitions.

The list reportedly includes England international Marc Guehi, who will leave Crystal Palace, attracting interest from multiple clubs as a top free agent. Everton left-footed center-back Jarrod Branswell is also back on United’s radar; his composure and physical attributes suit Amr’s tactical system, but a £70 million price tag and injury concerns remain obstacles.

Under Amr, Manchester United has shown clear offensive improvement this season, but defense has been compromised. The team alternates between all-out attack and deep defense, and achieving balance remains a work in progress. Summer defensive signings will be key for the Red Devils to boost their title challenge.
