Japanese table tennis star Ai Fukuhara recently spoke in an interview about her decision to remarry and announce her pregnancy. She explained that she had initially considered keeping it private, but realized that not speaking up herself could lead to speculation and create difficulties for her family. She said, “Since criticism is inevitable, being open prevents the complications that come with hiding the truth.”

Fukuhara emphasized the pressure of public attention and her desire to protect her children from online attacks. “People often say I should be used to criticism by now, but that’s not true. Every time I think about potential public scrutiny, I feel anxious. I don’t want my children to witness their mother being attacked online,” she said.

She also reflected on family priorities: “I grew up in the public eye, with my private life frequently reported. Now that I have my own family, I want to avoid causing them any trouble because of my choices. I don’t expect everyone to be forgiving, but if people respond kindly, it would make me very happy.”
