The 19th round of the Premier League kicks off on December 31, with Liverpool hosting Leeds United in a match that could impact the race for the top four. Last round, Liverpool edged Wolves 2-1, thanks to key goals from Hrafnbech and Wirtz, securing a third consecutive league win and temporarily moving up to fourth place. More importantly, summer signing Wirtz finally ended his goal drought, fully integrating into the team’s attacking system.
Liverpool started aggressively from the first whistle. In the 10th minute, Chiesa’s precise cross found Ekitik, who narrowly missed a chance. In the 27th minute, McAllister’s shot hit the post, but the breakthrough came in the 40th minute when Flinpon’s right-wing surge and low cross found Hrafnbech, who scored to make it 1-0. Two minutes later, Wirtz received Ekitik’s clever pass and calmly finished for 2-0.
Wolves fought back in the second half; in the 51st minute, Bueno converted a rebound to make it 2-1, adding tension to the match. Both teams continued attacking, but no further goals were scored. Liverpool held on to claim a vital victory, strengthening their position in the top-four race.
The Dutch duo Flinpon and Hrafnbech showed strong chemistry, while Wirtz’s first goal marks a career milestone and boosts Liverpool’s creative play in midfield and attack. However, the second-half pressure exposed some defensive vulnerabilities, which will need attention. Next up against Leeds, Liverpool cannot afford complacency.
