On December 29, UFC shared a hilarious video that quickly went viral. The clip dates back to August, during UFC Fight Night in Shanghai, when 34-year-old American fighter Charles Johnson knocked out undefeated Chinese-English hybrid prospect Ronnie Kavana.
Amid the cheers of the crowd, Johnson suddenly started speaking in Chinese. Standing inside the octagon, he painstakingly pronounced Chinese phrases word by word in English: “Jiāyóu, jiāyóu, jiāyóu, China.”
The funniest moment came when the bespectacled translator, prepared to interpret his English, was stunned by Johnson’s unexpected Chinese, showing a shocked expression. Johnson even read from his phone while saying: “China, China, I am from the USA, Charles Johnson, remember me, remember me, let’s rise together, fight for your dreams, fight for your dreams!”
When asked to translate, the translator sheepishly said: “He’s speaking Chinese… he says ‘I love China.’” Clearly, she didn’t fully understand Johnson’s improvised “Chinese performance,” making the moment both confusing and hilarious.
