(Hong Kong, Dec 30) Veteran singer Alan Tam, 75, is reported to have a son, Howard Tam (Tam Hiu-fung), with his close companion Wendy Chu, in addition to his wife Sally Yeung. The latest issue of East Week claims that Howard, now around 32, has been living quietly in Vancouver, Canada, where he has built a career in the tech sector.
According to the report, Howard is currently a senior software engineer at a Web3 startup, focusing on areas such as digital wallet development and cryptographic protocols. Stheadline also noted that he has kept a low profile for years and was an outstanding student from a young age—described as both academically strong and musically talented. He reportedly earned a Master’s degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and later pursued further studies at Princeton University.
After graduation, Howard was said to have received offers from multiple companies and eventually joined Canadian game studio Axiom Zen as an engineer—reported to have clients including NASA and Microsoft. During his time there, he was involved in the development of CryptoKitties, widely regarded as the first major NFT game built on the Ethereum blockchain. The game sparked a global craze and at one point reportedly accounted for more than 16% of Ethereum’s transaction traffic.
Media reports credit Howard’s achievements to his own efforts, saying his annual income has already exceeded HK$1 million. He has reportedly worked at Amazon and several other tech firms, and has also started his own company to broaden his experience. Although he lives abroad, the reports say he remains close to his father: Alan Tam is said to visit Canada from time to time and stay connected through video calls. Tam is described as proud of his son’s success while giving him freedom to chart his own path.
