(Subang Jaya, Jan 2) National carmaker Proton said it delivered growth in 2025 despite a cooling auto market. The company sold 14,655 vehicles in December, bringing full-year sales to 157,976 units—up 3.3% year-on-year. Proton also expects its market share to rise to 19.4%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from last year.

Proton noted that during the same period, Malaysia’s Total Industry Volume (TIV) is projected to edge down 0.2% to 814,949 units. The company attributed its sales gains to major milestones across its product lineup, international expansion, and national strategic initiatives.

In its statement, Proton highlighted strong segment leadership and record performances across key models:

  • Proton Saga: Best annual sales since 2011 at 74,013 units; October registrations hit 8,373—the highest since Proton’s strategic partnership with Geely; December sales rose 15.1% year-on-year to 7,975 units.
  • Proton X50: B-segment SUV leader for five consecutive years; 28,057 units in 2025 (+18.6% YoY); August sales of 4,287 marked a 35-month high.
  • Proton X70: Cumulative registrations reached 112,386 units, maintaining its status as the most successful C-segment SUV since 2018.
  • Proton S70: Top-selling C-segment sedan under RM100,000 for 15 straight months.
  • Proton X90: D-segment SUV leader for 10 consecutive months in 2025, staying on top since its launch three years ago.
  • Proton e.MAS 7: Malaysia’s EV sales leader in 2025, ranking No. 1 for five consecutive months (June–October).

To support its growing customer base, Proton expanded its dealer footprint to 187 outlets, including 27 new 3S/4S centres and sales city centres. The company added that the Proton e.MAS network has quickly become the country’s largest dedicated EV dealership network, with 48 e.MAS dealers (36 3S and 12 1S), 10 body-and-paint specialist facilities, and DC fast chargers installed at 44 e.MAS dealerships to strengthen charging accessibility.

On exports, Proton said overseas shipments via Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB) reached 6,000 units—its highest level since 2012—up 26% year-on-year.
