Former NBA player Raymond Felton suggested on the “To The Baha” show that this trade could make sense for both sides—Fox is somewhat crowded in the Spurs’ backcourt, while the Rockets are short on a point guard. Smith is a versatile, spacing forward who could perfectly fill the Spurs’ power forward gap.

Spurs’ Backcourt Congestion and Trade Potential

The Spurs currently sit second in the Western Conference at 29-13. However, Fox faces competition:

• Rookie of the Year Kessler is already a core backcourt player;
• 2025 rookie Dylan Harper also joins the rotation, leaving three promising guards vying for minutes.

Given this, neither Harper nor Kessler are likely trade candidates. Fox, however, could be the logical option.

Jabari Smith: The Ideal Fit for Spurs

Smith’s 5-year, $122M extension with Houston kicks in 2026-27; this season’s salary is $12.35M. Fox has a 5-year, $163M contract starting this season with $37.09M annual salary. To match salaries, Houston might need to include Tari Eason and Adams.
