With $1.4B Raised, Skild AI Builds a General Embodied Brain Across Tasks and Hardware

AI typically evolves from specialized systems to general-purpose models, and then into high-value vertical applications.
In software AI, general multimodal models have already replaced task-specific systems like facial recognition and speech transcription, and can be fine-tuned for domains such as healthcare, law, and customer service.
Physical AI, however, has lagged behind. Traditional robots operate only in narrow environments and fail to generalize, making truly practical humanoid robots still a distant goal.
Skild AI aims to change this with Skild Brain, an “omni-bodied” robotic foundation model designed to control different robot forms and perform diverse tasks using the same brain.
In 2024, Skild AI raised US$300 million in Series A and US$1.4 billion in Series B, led by SoftBank, with participation from NVIDIA and Jeff Bezos, valuing the company at over US$14 billion.
Skild Brain uses vision-based, end-to-end motion control and a hierarchical architecture that enables robots to adapt in real time without predefined maps or rules. Key innovations include training across tens of thousands of robot morphologies and applying in-context learning to physical AI, allowing robots to recover from failures or extreme hardware changes.
Already deployed in security, logistics, data centers, and manufacturing, Skild targets consumer home robots as its long-term goal. As embodied AI crosses the generalization threshold, its real-world value could grow exponentially.
WaPo In-Depth: Ukraine’s “Operation Spiderweb” Like Pearl Harbor, Rewriting the Rules of War
In a recent article, Washington Post columnist Max Boot argued that Ukraine’s drone strikes on Russian airbases—dubbed “Operation Spiderweb”—have rewritten the modern rules of war, akin to Japan’s 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. While not enough to fundamentally shift the Russia-Ukraine conflict in the short term, this operation underscores Ukraine’s innovation, drone warfare superiority, and the vulnerability of Russia’s airbase defenses.
Intel Officially Exits Auto Business: A Decade of Ambitions Ends, and It Lost More Than to Just Horizon Robotics
Just two months after a high-profile debut at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show and announcing multiple partnerships in China, Intel has confirmed the shutdown of its automotive business unit. Despite a $15.3 billion bet on Mobileye and years of autonomous driving ambitions, Intel is now making a sharp exit. Why did this decade-long journey in smart vehicles end so abruptly?
Tesla Unveils Model Y L: Six Seats and Extra Space, but Can It Compete with True Full-Size SUVs?
Tesla has just signaled a new variant in its China-market lineup: the Model Y L (Long). With a stretched wheelbase, a three-row “2+2+2” six-seat layout, and higher output dual motors, it targets families needing more room. Yet against a flood of genuine large six-seat SUVs and MPVs, the Model Y L’s chances for mass appeal remain in question.
