Lei Jun announces it’s pulled from shelves — this SU7 is now completely discontinued.

If I had to pick the Xiaomi car color that left the strongest impression on me, it wouldn’t just be the “Gulf Blue” that often takes center stage — it would be the extremely eye-catching “Lava Orange.”

It’s bold for a reason: a distinctive dual-layer paint process and very high visual saturation. In heavy traffic, it’s the kind of color you notice instantly. Both the Xiaomi SU7 and the later SUV model, the Xiaomi YU7, once offered this Lava Orange option.

But here’s the catch: it looks great, yet not many people actually buy it — and now it may be gone for good. Lei Jun recently said that while Lava Orange is beautiful, very few customers are brave enough to choose it. As a result, the Lava Orange color option has reportedly been removed for both the SU7 and YU7. It no longer appears in the Xiaomi Auto app’s configuration page, and it’s also missing from the official website.

At this rate, future “Lava Orange” SU7 or YU7 models may only exist as official die-cast scale models.

Why would such a striking color sell poorly? The answer is simple. On a phone, a bright orange case can be a fun way to show personality. But driving a full-size car in bright orange makes you the main character everywhere you go. People stare, and even casual conversations at traffic lights become more likely. From the day you pick it up, you’re basically the most noticeable car on the street.

It’s gorgeous — but not everyone can pull it off. Add real-world concerns like paint repair costs and resale value, and the low take-rate starts to make sense. Still, it’s a shame to lose a color that feels so closely aligned with Xiaomi’s brand identity.

Maybe Xiaomi will bring back a more toned-down, less aggressive orange in a future model — something with the same DNA, but easier for more people to live with.
