Fan Zhendong’s German Salary Revealed: Nearly 10 Million RMB Per Year, Plus Big Bonuses for Titles!

Recently, Olympic champion Fan Zhendong returned to China from Germany to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. His move to German club Saarbrücken has made a significant impact on the Bundesliga.
Traditionally, China’s national table tennis team discouraged top players from competing abroad, making Fan an exception. This was possible because he stepped back from world rankings, left the national team, and received support from the Chinese Table Tennis Association and Shanghai Table Tennis Association, allowing his overseas journey to proceed smoothly.
Fan Zhendong’s presence has boosted the Bundesliga in several ways:
- Increased viewership – Chinese fans watch matches online, and some even travel to Germany for live games.
- Ticket sales skyrocketing – Before Fan joined, tickets were slow to sell; after his arrival, they sold out immediately, and temporary stands had to be built.
- Rule changes – Previously, signed players couldn’t participate in other national leagues during the season, but this restriction was relaxed for Fan.
This season, Fan has already helped Saarbrücken win the German Cup, marking his first title abroad.
Regarding salary, Fan earns approximately €1.2 million per year (about 9.8 million RMB), plus 5% of jersey sales and substantial prize money for winning titles. His earnings are impressive.
However, returning to the national team sooner would benefit Fan, especially as young Chinese players emerge. For instance, 19-year-old Wen Ruibo recently reached two finals, winning one gold and one silver, and entered the world top 50. If Fan aims to compete in the Olympics for China, an early return is advisable.
We wish Fan Zhendong continued success in his upcoming matches! Go Fan!
