Jia Bing’s Traces Left by the Wind Drops Without Warning—Bolder Than Expected, and the Scale Is No Small Matter

The crime drama Guilty Body is currently airing, but its reception has been lukewarm. Early set photos of Wei Daxun and Sun Qian led many viewers to expect a high-society romance, only to discover a slow-paced suspense series instead—resulting in noticeable disappointment.
Fortunately, several upcoming Chinese mystery dramas are generating far stronger anticipation.
Catch the Thief promises dark humor and sharp storytelling, pairing Wang Xiao and Tian Xiwei against villainous tycoon Wang Chuanjun, with minimal romance and a strong investigative focus.
Meanwhile, Five Missing Boys features a powerhouse female cast including Liu Lin, Yan Ni, and Qin Hailu, written by acclaimed screenwriter Zhao Dongling.
The first to officially announce a release date, however, is Traces in the Wind, premiering February 3 on Tencent Video and iQIYI. The trailer suggests a tightly constructed, high-quality procedural.
The series follows a forensic investigation unit tackling major crimes through fast-paced, case-of-the-week storytelling—11 cases across 30 episodes, leaving little room for filler or romance. Drawing heavily from real criminal cases and focusing on forensic trace analysis, the show emphasizes realism, supported by purpose-built labs and professional consultants.
The cast blends star power and acting credibility, led by Gong Jun, alongside veterans Jiang Wu, Sun Yi, Jia Bing, and Wang Xun.
If the final episodes maintain the intensity and discipline shown in the preview, Traces in the Wind could become one of the most solid Chinese crime dramas of the year.
