(Taipei, Feb 2) — Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu (Da S / Hsu Hsi-yuan) passed away suddenly in Japan last February 2 due to influenza at the age of 48, and was laid to rest at Jinbaoshan. Marking the first anniversary of her death, a memorial statue designed by her husband Koo Jun-yup was unveiled today.

According to Taiwanese media reports, the ceremony took place at 2 p.m., with Koo, Hsu’s mother, and Dee Hsu (Xiao S / Hsu Hsi-ti) jointly pulling back a pink drape to reveal the statue. Dominated by white tones, the sculpture portrays Hsu in a graceful, serene pose: her hands folded over her chest, eyes gently closed, and a faint smile on her face. A bow on her head—symbolic of her youthful spirit—paired with a pleated long skirt, gives the impression of fabric softly moving in the rain.

Overcome with emotion, Hsu’s mother stepped forward to embrace the statue and appeared to break down in tears. Koo immediately moved in to comfort her, sharing a long hug in the rain. Xiao S, visibly tearful, approached slowly and tenderly touched the statue’s hands, her grief clear.

Throughout the event, Koo stayed close by and held a large black umbrella over Hsu’s mother to shield her from the rain. Later, the mother linked arms with Koo as they stood quietly, gazing at the statue for a long time before leaving. After the unveiling, Xiao S called out to their friends—“Come on!”—and sang on site with Mavis Fan and Aya Liu in tribute to Hsu.
