BYD has quietly launched a new brand — without a press event or major announcements. A newly registered brand called “Linghui Auto” and four vehicles listed in China’s MIIT catalog marked the move.

The launch is not about excitement, but strategy. Linghui represents BYD’s decision to separate its B2B and fleet business from the main brand, creating a dedicated unit focused on taxis, ride-hailing, rentals, and government procurement.

The initial models — e5, e7, e9, and M9 — are based on proven BYD platforms such as the Qin Plus EV, Han DM-i, and Sea Lion EV. The focus is practicality: durability, low operating cost, and easy maintenance, rather than cutting-edge features.

This approach helps BYD reuse mature production assets while protecting its consumer-facing brand from being overly associated with commercial use. Linghui handles the “tool vehicles,” allowing BYD’s main lineup to move further upmarket.

Compared with building a new luxury brand from scratch, BYD’s solution is simpler, faster, and more cost-effective.
