(Ginza, 13th) Nissan Motor expects a net loss of 650 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March, marking its second consecutive year of heavy losses. The company reported a 670.9 billion yen loss in FY2024.
Third-quarter losses (October–December) narrowed to 28.3 billion yen, slightly better than analyst expectations.
To restore profitability, Nissan plans to cut global factories from 17 to 10 and eliminate 20,000 jobs by FY2027. CEO Ivan Espinosa said layoffs may accelerate.
The automaker continues to struggle following the 2018 scandal involving former chairman Carlos Ghosn, a failed merger attempt with Honda Motor, and U.S. tariff pressures under President Donald Trump.
Although tariffs were later reduced to 15%, Nissan remains one of the Japanese automakers most exposed to trade and competitive headwinds.
