Djokovic Backs Eileen Gu Twice in Two Days: Hard Work Builds Confidence

At the Milan Winter Olympics, 22-year-old Chinese freestyle skiing star Eileen Gu delivered a stellar performance, winning one gold and two silver medals for China. Tennis legend Novak Djokovic, impressed by Gu’s achievements and determination, showed his support twice on social media over the past two days.

Gu competed in three events in Milan. Although she missed gold in the first two, winning two silver medals brought her total Olympic medal count to five, making her the most decorated freestyle skier in history. Djokovic congratulated her on social media.

On February 22, Gu captured gold in her final event, successfully defending her title. Shortly after, Djokovic shared a poster of Gu’s victory, adding applause, admiration, and gold medal emojis to express his respect.

Yesterday, Djokovic again stood behind Gu, sharing a video from her Winter Olympics press conference. In the video, Gu emphasized: “Sports give you unlimited strength in building confidence. Competitive sports are very real—you cannot cheat yourself.”

She continued: “You know how late you train and how early you wake up, which others cannot replicate. Looking back over the past ten years, I have given so much to this sport I love. That’s why I can be confident—this confidence comes from daily effort.”

Gu encourages young women to engage in sports: “It builds confidence, and that’s the reason.” Djokovic reacted with a like and comment: “Well said, applause!”
