Ng Man Yan Reveals She Was Scammed Out of Her Life Savings, Refuses Crowdfunding and Sells Assets to Fight Cancer

(Hong Kong, 20th) Former Miss Hong Kong Ng Man Yan (also known as Ng Man-yin), 51, has been battling cancer over the past two years. She previously revealed that the disease has spread to her liver, tailbone, and even her brain, raising serious concern about her condition. Recently, she shared a heartfelt post disclosing the financial burden of her treatment for the first time, inspired by a recent public fundraising controversy.

Ng revealed that in February last year, she was hospitalized for 16 days due to pericardial and pleural effusion, along with cancer spreading to her tailbone, which severely affected her mobility. During that time, a media friend visited her and offered to help organize a fundraiser after learning that she had been scammed out of her life savings while still facing mounting medical and living expenses.

However, she declined the offer. She explained that, given her public profile, raising funds would not have been difficult, but she has always preferred to rely on herself and did not feel it was the right time to seek help.

Due to limitations in her insurance coverage, she had to rely on the public healthcare system, enduring long waiting times that left her emotionally drained and, at times, in tears.

To cope with expenses, Ng quietly sold personal belongings, including wedding jewelry, a rose-gold Rolex watch, diamond accessories, and luxury handbags. Reflecting on her situation, she said, “When facing life and death, these material things no longer matter.”

She emphasized that she never intended to share these private struggles publicly or seek sympathy. Instead, she hopes her story can encourage others facing illness or hardship.

Her message reads: “Don’t give up. Every hardship will pass. If you want to live, you must rely on your willpower. You are not alone.” She also extended her encouragement to all patients to stay strong and persevere.
