Once Criticized for Stepping on Guan Gong Statue While Filming, Roy Cheung Reveals Truth Behind “Haunting” Rumors

(Hong Kong, 19th) Roy Cheung, best known for his iconic villain role “Crow” in Young and Dangerous 3, recently addressed long-standing rumors surrounding one of the film’s most controversial scenes—where his character destroys a Guan Gong statue.

Rumors had circulated for years that Cheung experienced nightmares after filming the scene, visited temples to seek forgiveness, and even went vegetarian for three months. Responding to these claims, he clarified that his vegetarian diet was purely a personal preference and had nothing to do with the film.

He also denied reports that he resisted filming the scene and only agreed after being pressured or incentivized. “As an actor, it’s part of the job to follow the director’s vision,” he stated.

When asked whether he felt uneasy after filming or experienced anything supernatural, Cheung dismissed such notions, joking that nothing like that would happen to him.

Having stepped away from the film industry for about 18 years, Cheung now spends most of his time in Hong Kong and Macau, occasionally investing in the stock market. While he admits his passion for acting has diminished, he remains open to opportunities, saying he would consider a return if the right project comes along.
