Cech could return to Manchester United to challenge Lammens, potentially helping Sir Jim Ratcliffe save on transfer costs—but he refuses to be just a backup

Manchester United are actively planning their goalkeeping structure for next season. Rather than relying solely on André Onana, the club is considering recalling loanee Radek Vitek to compete with Senna Lammens for a key role—potentially reducing the need for a new signing.

At 22, Vitek has emerged as a standout performer for Bristol City in the Championship. Standing at 198 cm, he offers strong aerial presence and physicality, making him well-suited to handle the physical demands of English football, including crowded set-piece situations.

“I enjoy claiming crosses and helping my team by clearing danger,” Vitek said, highlighting his confidence in dealing with high balls.

Originally signed as a backup, Vitek seized his opportunity after Max O'Leary suffered an injury. Since then, he has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, even forcing O’Leary out of the team.

Vitek has started 34 league matches this season and delivered standout moments, including a triple save against Middlesbrough and a dramatic late attacking involvement that led to an equalizer.

Looking ahead, Vitek has made his ambitions clear—he wants to play regularly, not sit on the bench. His development path mirrors that of Dean Henderson, who once returned to United to challenge David de Gea but eventually left due to limited opportunities.

Vitek remains in close communication with United and is focused on finishing the season strongly. Whether he returns or goes out on loan again, his priority is consistent game time.

Goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson has played a key role in his development since he joined United at 16. Vitek credits the academy for improving his agility and overall game.

He also draws inspiration from legends like Petr Čech and Manuel Neuer, particularly admiring Neuer’s all-around excellence.

Despite not yet making a competitive first-team debut, Vitek has gained valuable experience through loans and preseason matches. Early setbacks, including a costly mistake in a youth final, have only strengthened his mentality.
