(Taipei, April 3) Mandopop icon Jay Chou has released his new album Son of the Sun, previously teasing that he would incorporate footage from his real-life proposal into a music video. Now, the MV is officially out—and fans were right: it’s for the romantic track I DO. The video features not only the heartfelt proposal but also joyful wedding party scenes, creating a deeply romantic atmosphere. Chou shared emotionally, “After all this time, I’m finally able to share this personal memory with everyone.”

He explained that many fans play Love Confession at weddings, which inspired him to create I DO as another romantic option for couples. That idea naturally led to incorporating his real proposal footage into the MV.

Recalling the proposal, Chou revealed that every detail was meticulously planned. He rented a private castle in the UK, transformed part of it into a restaurant setting, and arranged dancers to rehearse in advance. From waitstaff to luggage handlers, every role was carefully staged to create a seamless experience.

However, things didn’t go entirely as planned. His wife, Hannah Quinlivan, who was unaware of the setup, initially refused to come downstairs for dinner due to exhaustion. Chou laughed, “I kept asking her to come down, but she didn’t want to. If she hadn’t shown up, all my planning—and the castle rental—would’ve gone to waste!” He also mentioned preparing a dress code so she would look perfect on camera.

Fortunately, she eventually appeared. The proposal began with a staged couple, which she happily applauded, unaware of what was coming next. One by one, dancers turned around to reveal the words “WILL YOU MARRY ME,” and only then did she realize she was the true protagonist of the moment

Beyond the proposal, the MV also showcases a stunning wedding celebration. The couple arrives at the castle in a carriage, evoking a fairy-tale setting. Inside, each room is uniquely themed—Alice in Wonderland, ballet, and even Chaplin-inspired spaces—creating an unforgettable experience for guests.

This once-private footage is now shared publicly for the first time. Chou reflected, “I used to keep my personal life private, but as I’ve grown older, sharing these moments with fans feels natural—like sharing with friends.”
