(Hong Kong, April 3) A health supplement brand “Youthit,” promoted through livestreams by celebrities including Carman Lee and Teresa Cheung, has come under scrutiny after being exposed by China Central Television for alleged false advertising—sparking widespread public debate.

The report revealed that the brand’s claimed Australian company address is למעשה an auto repair shop, while its marketed brand story, international awards, and expert endorsements are largely fabricated or commercially constructed. In reality, the products are manufactured in Guangzhou. The revelations quickly went viral, drawing criticism not only toward the brand but also toward celebrities who had endorsed it.

Following the backlash, both Carman Lee and Teresa Cheung issued public apologies on April 1. Lee admitted via her official account that her team had failed to properly verify product origins, acknowledging a serious lapse in due diligence and expressing regret for disappointing her followers.

She also announced a “priority after-sales mechanism,” offering full refunds to all customers who purchased the product through her livestreams—regardless of purchase date or whether the product has been opened. She added that she will strengthen compliance awareness and may involve fans in offline product selection processes to improve transparency.

Meanwhile, Cheung’s brand account “Rose is Rose” stated that it would take full responsibility toward consumers. She confirmed that all cooperation with Youthit has been terminated and that legal measures are being considered to protect her interests.

For affected customers, Cheung’s team introduced an advance compensation policy, allowing refund applications within 15 working days, with processing completed within 7 working days. She emphasized that consumer protection remains the top priority, regardless of how the brand proceeds, and pledged stricter standards for future endorsements.

The incident has not only impacted the public image of those involved but has also reignited discussions around livestream e-commerce regulation and the responsibilities of celebrity endorsers.
