(Seoul, April 9) Rookie K-pop boy group ALPHA DRIVE ONE (ALD1), just three months into their debut, has been thrust into controversy after member Kim Geon-woo was accused of making inappropriate remarks toward female staff during a filming session. The issue quickly sparked widespread discussion, prompting his agency, WAKEONE, to issue an official response on Wednesday (April 8), announcing that Kim will suspend all activities to reflect on his actions.

According to reports, multiple television staff members alleged that Kim used offensive language during filming, including remarks perceived as insulting and directed at the appearance of female staff. The accusations rapidly gained traction online.

Further claims suggest that his attitude on set was perceived as arrogant, reportedly affecting the filming process. The situation was ultimately addressed only through an apology from his manager, which has led to dissatisfaction among some industry insiders.

In response, WAKEONE clarified that the incident took place during a pre-debut shoot, where Kim was unaware that his microphone was still on when he made the inappropriate comments. While the remarks were not directed at a specific individual, the company acknowledged that they were still inappropriate and confirmed that an apology has been issued to those involved.

The agency also emphasized that, aside from the confirmed details, many circulating claims are inaccurate, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. Following internal discussions, Kim will halt all activities for self-reflection, while the group will continue promotions as a seven-member unit. The company also stated it will review its management and communication processes moving forward.

Notably, Kim Geon-woo had previously been linked to minor controversies during his trainee period, including allegations of poor attitude toward fellow trainees, preferential treatment, and even footage showing him pushing a teammate at an airport—past issues that have now resurfaced amid the current situation.
