When it comes to TVB’s iconic “villain actors,” one name that stands out is veteran supporting actor Wong Man Biu. Known for portraying powerful gang leaders in countless Hong Kong dramas, he earned the reputation of a “go-to villain” among audiences.
Recently, he confirmed in an interview that he has been diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson’s disease. The news came as a shock to many fans who grew up watching his performances, sparking widespread concern and support.
Despite his condition, Wong attended a thank-you event for the Hong Kong film A Step into the Past on April 7 and shared updates about his health. “After taking medication, my hands don’t tremble as much anymore,” he said. He recalled that earlier, viewers had noticed his trembling hands, though he had not yet been diagnosed at the time. It was only after friends urged him to seek medical help that the condition was confirmed.
He now undergoes regular check-ups and relies on medication to slow the progression of the disease. Doctors have warned that his speech and mobility may gradually decline. “My movements and speech have already slowed down, but medication has improved my balance,” he shared, expressing hope for continued stability.
Wong admitted that the illness has affected his daily life, but he remains mentally sharp. “My physical abilities are impacted, but my mind is still clear,” he emphasized. As for lifestyle changes, he said he doesn’t drink and is trying to cut down on smoking, though quitting completely has been difficult. He currently lives alone and noted that medical costs are manageable, as he now seeks treatment in mainland China and still has part-time work.
Wong spent over 20 years with TVB before leaving in 2012 due to declining income. After stepping away from the industry, he once worked as a fish market delivery driver, starting his days before dawn to load and transport goods—an example of his resilience in facing life’s realities.
On the personal front, he revealed that he had been in a nine-year relationship with a girlfriend 24 years younger than him, which ultimately ended. Aside from financial pressure and family opposition, the relationship reportedly fell apart due to a third party. The girlfriend’s mother had never approved of the age-gap relationship, further straining the situation.
Now single, Wong shared that his greatest regret is not being able to fulfill his late mother’s wish for him to buy a home and start a family—something that continues to weigh on his heart.
