Joyce Tang Reflects on 30-Year Career, Says: “As Long as You Still Want to Watch, I’ll Keep Acting”

(Hong Kong, 17th) Hong Kong actress Joyce Tang has earned her first nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her role as Shin Rou in the film adaptation of A Step into the Past. She will compete alongside Deng Tao, Kara Wai, Michelle Wai, and Paw Hee-ching—a lineup that has thrilled longtime fans who grew up watching her TV dramas.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tang reflected on her 30-year journey in the industry: “Thirty years… I’ve been sitting in the corner of dressing rooms for three decades.” From humble beginnings to becoming a household name, she has remained deeply committed to her craft.

She shared that roles such as Ah Suet in Virtues of Harmony, the eldest sister in Come Home Love, and Shin Rou in A Step into the Past have all shaped her growth. “When I was younger, I only wanted to act ‘well.’ Now I realize acting ‘truthfully’ is what truly matters.”

Tang expressed gratitude to her audience and fans, adding: “I don’t know what the future holds, but I have no regrets because I love acting… As long as you still want to watch, I will keep performing and give you my heart.”

Regarding the awards, she said calmly: “No matter the outcome, I just hope people remember that I, Joyce Tang, am a professional actress.”

Her sincerity drew praise from peers, including Bob Lam, who commented, “You are absolutely a professional actress.” Fans echoed similar sentiments, saying her legacy is defined by her roles rather than awards.

Tang began her career after competing in the 1995 New Talent Singing Awards alongside Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung. Although she did not win, the experience led her into TVB’s training program, launching her acting career.

She later rose to fame through the Armed Reaction series, where her role as Chan Sam-yuen became iconic, along with notable performances in The Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, Detective Investigation Files IV, and the TV version of A Step into the Past.
