Responding to father Lee Ka Ding’s “financial support” remarks, Lee Wing Hon hits back: “I never asked him to pay for my wedding”

(Hong Kong, 22nd) The funeral wake of Shi Ming, former wife of 79-year-old “Master Ding” Li Ka-ding, is being held today at Po Fook Memorial Hall in Tai Wai. A funeral ceremony will follow tomorrow before her remains are sent to Fu Shan Crematorium for cremation. The arrangements were handled solely by her eldest son, Li Yonghan, who insists on honoring his mother’s wishes by barring his younger brother Li Yonghao’s wife, Lin Yuqian (Agnes), from entering the mourning hall—bringing long-standing family tensions into the spotlight.

According to Hong Kong media, Li Yonghan previously accused Agnes of showing disrespect toward their mother after marriage, including refusing to invite her to the wedding—an incident he claims triggered the rift between the brothers.

As the dispute escalated, Li Ka-ding responded yesterday (21st), denying that Shi Ming ever disliked Agnes. He even released a photo of them together as evidence and stated he would not attend the post-funeral gathering, expressing dissatisfaction with his eldest son.

In response, Li Yonghan said he had informed both his father and brother about the funeral arrangements, but they did not reply or confirm participation. He questioned their actions, suggesting they were attempting to “clear Agnes’ name” and justify her entry into the mourning hall.

The issue of whether Agnes was favored by Shi Ming remains disputed. Li Yonghan claimed his mother initially had no objections, but within three months of the relationship, she saw Agnes’ true character. He alleged that Agnes made statements asserting control over the relationship and resisted living with her mother-in-law, which he believes caused family discord.

He also recounted a family gathering where Shi Ming had explicitly asked not to take photos, yet Agnes allegedly ignored this and insisted on taking one, prompting Shi Ming to pull away in discomfort—an incident witnessed by relatives.

Additionally, Li Ka-ding had claimed in an interview that he provided substantial financial support to his son after marriage, including HKD50,000–60,000 monthly expenses, as well as covering his grandson’s tuition and insurance. Li Yonghan denied this, stating, “That is not true. I did not rely on him financially.” He added that he worked from the ground up in his father’s restaurant, earning about HKD15,000 monthly and commuting by public transport to save money.
