IU and Lee Jong Suk Face Breakup Rumors After 4 Years Together — One Remark on Love Sparks Buzz

(Seoul, 26th) IU and Lee Jong-suk have kept their relationship notably low-profile since going public in late 2022, rarely appearing together and often sparking breakup rumors. Recently, IU’s rare comments about love on a show have been widely interpreted as an indirect response to their relationship status.
While promoting her upcoming drama The 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife, IU invited Byeon Woo-seok, Yoo Su-bin, and Lee Yeon onto her YouTube channel to share behind-the-scenes stories. During the conversation, Byeon noted that becoming closer with Yoo unexpectedly made a scene harder to film, while Yoo explained that caring more about each other increased the pressure to perform well.
Byeon added, “It’s because you love each other more.” Lee Yeon jokingly questioned whether that meant there was more room to grow at the beginning. IU then responded with a remark that quickly drew attention: “People who truly love each other don’t constantly talk about it—they keep that love deep in their hearts.”
Her words were widely seen by Korean media as an explanation for her low-key approach to her own relationship.
IU and Lee Jong-suk officially confirmed their relationship on December 31, 2022, and are now in their fourth year together. The two first met in 2012 while co-hosting Inkigayo. A day before going public, Lee subtly referenced “someone he deeply admires and loves” during an award speech—widely interpreted as a confession to IU.
Since then, the couple has maintained a private relationship, rarely speaking about each other or sharing photos. IU’s recent statement—“true love doesn’t need to be spoken aloud”—is now seen as the most honest reflection of their relationship.
