Choi Yat Kit Opens Up About Brain Tumor Battle, Reveals Devastating Post-Surgery News of Cancer Spread

(Hong Kong, Apr 27) Legendary Cantopop trio Grasshopper kicked off their 40th anniversary concert series “Grasshopper Three In Love Concert 2026” with a seven-night run at the Hong Kong Coliseum on April 26, sparking a powerful wave of nostalgia as the trio reunited on stage.

The most emotional highlight came as member Calvin Choy (蔡一傑) впервые opened up about his battle with cancer, revealing that he once feared the concert might never happen.

He shared that after seeking medical attention for discomfort, doctors discovered a malignant brain tumor measuring about 7 cm. Shocked by the diagnosis, he decided to undergo brain surgery within a week. However, the following day brought another devastating blow when he was told the cancer had already spread. “That was the second major blow in my life,” he said.

Despite the grim news, he chose not to give up. Committing fully to treatment and recovery, he worked hard to regain both his health and mindset. He described the experience as “a journey through hell and back,” admitting there was a time he wasn’t sure he would survive. Still, he embraced optimism: “Since we’re here in this world, we should live it fully and paint the most beautiful picture of our lives before we leave.”

When asked about chemotherapy, he responded briefly that he had undergone “everything necessary,” without elaborating, and noted that his current condition is progressing well under medical guidance.

He also revealed that his weight dropped from 72kg to 63kg during his illness, but through disciplined training and recovery, he has regained strength. “Wearing a sleeveless outfit on stage now is my way of showing that the effort wasn’t in vain,” he said, adding that returning to perform for fans was a promise he was determined to keep—and has now fulfilled.
