TAIPEI, July 26 — Taiwanese television actor Wang Kai has died unexpectedly at the age of 43, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry and leaving colleagues and fans devastated.
With more than two decades in show business, Wang had remained active in local television dramas and was still filming SETTV's prime-time series A Taste of Life. He had wrapped up filming and returned home the previous day, with another shoot scheduled for July 26. However, the production team was instead informed of his passing by his manager.
Actress Ching Hsuan, who had previously worked with Wang, paid tribute on social media shortly after the news broke, revealing that they had met just days earlier, never imagining it would be their final farewell.
She recalled noticing that Wang had lost a significant amount of weight and asked about his health. Wang admitted he had not been feeling well but chose not to inform the production team because he was worried about delaying the filming schedule.
Before parting ways, the two shared a hug and promised to catch up properly another time. Wang then stepped into the lift and left — a farewell that would unexpectedly become their last.
In her emotional post, Ching Hsuan wrote: "Just two days ago I told you how much weight you'd lost. You said you weren't feeling well but didn't dare tell the crew. We hugged and agreed to talk again next time. You walked into the lift... and there was no next time."
Her heartfelt message deeply moved many netizens, who flooded social media with condolences for the late actor.
