(Taipei, June 27) The 37th Golden Melody Awards were held at Taipei Arena on Saturday night, where Taiwanese singer Ricky Hsiao claimed the Best Taiwanese Male Singer award with his album Be a Compassionate Person, marking the fifth time he has won the prestigious honour.

Taking the stage, an emotional Hsiao joked, "My hardware store is officially open!"—a playful reference to having collected five "golden" trophies.

He also revealed that before leaving home, his wife told him he had to win, adding with a smile that his career had flourished ever since they got married. Winning another Golden Melody Award, he said, made the moment even more meaningful.

Hsiao enjoyed a double celebration later in the evening when Be a Compassionate Person was also named Best Taiwanese Album.

Meanwhile, PiA Wu Pei-ya won the Best Taiwanese Female Singer award with her album First Experience of Divorce, earning the first Taiwanese-language singing title of her career.
