Jordan Transitions to Sports Commentator with $40 Million Annual Salary, Setting a Historic Record
May 19 — NBA legend Michael Jordan will serve as a special contributor for NBC in the upcoming season. According to U.S. media Sports Casting, Jordan has signed a contract with NBC worth $40 million per year, setting a new record for the highest-paid sports commentator, surpassing Tom Brady’s $37.5 million annual contract with Fox Sports. Notably, during his 16-season NBA career, Jordan earned approximately $94 million in total salary, with his highest annual salary reaching $33.14 million.
Compared to full-time commentator Brady, Jordan’s role is expected to be more flexible, mainly involving a series of special programs. According to the New York Post, Jordan will record analytical videos to be aired before games or during halftime, with specific responsibilities yet to be clarified by NBC.
It is worth mentioning that the NBA was broadcast on NBC from 1990 to 2002, covering Jordan’s peak career period. In 2024, NBC partnered with Amazon and ESPN to sign an 11-year, $76 billion broadcasting deal with the NBA, marking the league’s return to NBC starting from the 2025-26 season after 23 years.
Jordan’s entry into sports commentary with a high salary not only reflects his commercial value and influence but also signifies a new chapter in the collaboration between the NBA and NBC.
