SER Radio Commentator Benito Slams Vinicius: “Disgraceful, Zero Professionalism”

Spanish radio commentator Álvaro Benito launched a scathing critique of Vinicius Jr.'s attitude during El Clásico against Barcelona. Real Madrid lost 3-4 to Barça in a match that likely ended their La Liga title hopes, having already exited both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Vinicius, who played poorly, drew major attention. In the 88th minute, he was substituted after showing erratic behavior—first signaling to be taken off, then deciding to stay. His attitude and performance triggered criticism, especially from Benito, who was commentating the match for Carrusel Deportivo on SER Radio.

“Vinicius played an absolute disaster of a game. Embarrassing, totally unacceptable!” Benito exclaimed during the live broadcast.

When asked what coach Ancelotti should do, Benito didn’t hold back: “Take him off immediately. Don’t let him play another minute!”

A Message for Xabi Alonso

Benito also discussed what future manager Xabi Alonso must address: “Whoever takes over will have a lot of work. The attitude of some players must change. You can’t play like Vinicius—just watching on defense, no effort to track back, not attacking or pressing…”

Benito criticized the entire team, saying: “At halftime, Barça could have been leading 6-0. Madrid needs serious reflection.” He then added: “Vinicius’ performance mirrored Rodrygo in the Copa del Rey final—just strolling, watching the play unfold… it’s ridiculous.”

Praise for Mbappé

Benito reserved praise only for Kylian Mbappé: “A few players were good, and Mbappé stood out with individual brilliance. But the team lacked structure.” He warned, “If Madrid wants to compete, it must overhaul all aspects of its play. The attacking players’ defensive laziness is undermining the entire defensive system.”

Ancelotti’s Substitution Explanation

Carlo Ancelotti later explained the substitution: “He had a slight ankle sprain.” The switch could have happened earlier—Vinicius had asked to be subbed off, but then changed his mind. Responding to media questions, Ancelotti sternly replied: “I decide who gets subbed and when.”
