Indonesia Attracts Surge of Chinese Investment in Electric Vehicle Industry, Including Batteries and Data Centers

On May 25, Pandu Sjahrir, Chief Investment Officer of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund “Danantara,” revealed at an event that four Chinese companies are currently planning to invest in Indonesia’s electric vehicle sector. These companies have expressed interest not only in electric vehicles and battery development, but also in data centers and consumer services. Pandu emphasized that Indonesia will evaluate each investment case individually to ensure alignment with the country’s long-term development strategy.

Last week, Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono, an official from Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry, noted that some automakers have shifted their focus to Indonesia, driven by the impact of U.S. government tariff policies. These investments in EV and battery factories are expected to accelerate the development of Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry and highlight the country’s potential and attractiveness in the regional industrial chain.
