NVIDIA JUPITER Becomes Europe’s Fastest Supercomputer: A Leap in AI and High-Performance Computing

NVIDIA has announced that its JUPITER supercomputer, powered by the Grace Hopper platform, has become the fastest supercomputer in Europe. It now ranks in the top five of the global TOP500 list and leads in energy efficiency with 60 Gflops per watt. Deployed in Germany, the system is designed to accelerate breakthroughs in AI, HPC, climate modeling, quantum research, and biomedical science.

Hosted at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre and funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, JUPITER is Europe’s first exascale-class supercomputer. It features approximately 24,000 NVIDIA GH200 superchips, connected via the Quantum-2 InfiniBand network and built using Eviden’s BullSequana XH3000 liquid-cooled architecture. Its AI performance is expected to exceed 90 exaflops.

JUPITER integrates NVIDIA’s full software stack, including CUDA-Q and cuQuantum, supporting quantum algorithm development, AI simulation, digital twin technology, and drug discovery. Remarkably, the system was built in under nine months, showcasing Europe’s capability in HPC integration and rapid deployment.

“JUPITER is a vital pillar of Europe’s technological sovereignty and advanced research,” said Anders Jensen, Executive Director of EuroHPC JU. It provides not only computational power for scientific advancement but also a foundation for quantum research and green engineering.

The platform is now open for access to researchers across Germany and Europe, expected to drive innovation in environmental modeling, engineering simulation, and life sciences.
