Russia Confirms Crash of Missing Mi-8 Helicopter, Search Teams En Route
On July 16, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry confirmed that a previously missing Mi-8 helicopter has crashed in the Far East. The wreckage was located in the Khabarovsk Krai, and rescue teams have been mobilized to reach the crash site.
The helicopter went missing on July 14 while carrying five individuals—three flight crew and two technical staff. Following the loss of contact, the ministry launched a full-scale search operation involving helicopters, ground teams, and radar surveillance systems.
Cause Unknown, Survivor Status Unconfirmed
The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, and there is currently no confirmation regarding the survival of those onboard. The Mi-8 is a Soviet/Russian-made multi-role helicopter widely used for both military and civilian missions, especially in remote and rugged terrain.
Although considered reliable, the Mi-8 has been involved in past accidents, particularly under extreme weather or challenging environmental conditions.
The ministry stated that further details, including casualty updates and the investigation status, will be released in due course.
