“Points Should Be Docked!” Mourinho Blasts City Penalty, Insists United Are the True Champions

In a recent Canal 11 interview, former Manchester United manager José Mourinho reflected on his time at Old Trafford. “We were still rebuilding the club when I coached United, yet we often reached the podium and finished second in the league,” he said. Addressing Financial Fair Play sanctions, he was blunt: “A mere fine is insufficient to deter rule-breaking clubs; they should be docked points. City were fined, but legally they should have lost points, making us the rightful champions.”
Commenting on current United boss Rúben Amorim, Mourinho added: “Since the ownership change, the club lacks fresh footballing ideas, though their sports management is more professional. Amorim was once labeled one of the worst United managers, yet he earned trust and continues in his role, showing great potential and charisma. With stability, I believe he can achieve remarkable success.”

Mourinho’s candid remarks reignite debates over FFP enforcement in the Premier League. A fine alone fails to curb wealthy clubs’ financial excesses; point deductions carry real deterrence. Meanwhile, Amorim’s tenure demonstrates that stable leadership and genuine trust are vital for nurturing young managers. For Manchester United’s future glory, legal fairness must be coupled with internal strategic and footballing innovation.
