Wrexham Break Transfer Record with £7.5M Signing of Ipswich Striker Nathan Broadhead
According to talkSPORT, newly promoted Championship side Wrexham AFC, co-owned by Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, are set to complete the most expensive transfer in club history by signing Ipswich Town striker Nathan Broadhead for £7.5 million.
🔁 From Youth Prospect to Record-Breaking Return
Now 27, Broadhead is a Welsh international who once spent time in Wrexham’s youth academy before joining Everton’s youth system. In January 2023, he moved from Everton to Ipswich for £1.5 million and played a key role in the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League.
During his time at Ipswich, Broadhead made 83 appearances and scored 23 goals, including his first Premier League goal last season. With just one year left on his contract, he is now set for a high-profile return to Wrexham, smashing the club’s previous record transfer of £3 million for Lewis O’Brien earlier this summer.
🇼🇪 Welsh International Firepower Boosts Wrexham’s Ambitions
Broadhead made his debut for the Welsh national team in March 2023 during the Euro Qualifier against Croatia. His international experience and proven record across multiple tiers of English football make him a strategic signing for Wrexham as they prepare to compete at a higher level.
He becomes Ipswich’s sixth key departure this summer, following exits by Delap, Sam Morsy, Tuanzebe, Cameron Burgess, and Massimo Luongo.
🔄 A Busy Summer: Wrexham Strengthen Across the Pitch
Fresh off a triple promotion climb, Wrexham have already bolstered their squad with:
- Left-back Liberato Cacace
- Midfielder George Thomason
- Central midfielder Lewis O’Brien
The club has also been linked with Wales striker Kieffer Moore and former Manchester United star Christian Eriksen, though the latter appears unlikely to join.
When asked about the Moore rumors, manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Sport:
“Kieffer is under contract at Sheffield United. He’s just one of many players we’ve looked at. The market is unpredictable, and we’re considering a wide range of domestic and international options.”
🧾 Final Thoughts: Wrexham’s Goals Are Bigger Than Survival
Backed by celebrity investment and ambitious management, Wrexham are proving they’re not just here to survive in the Championship—they intend to compete. The return of Broadhead is not just a feel-good homecoming, but a serious statement of intent.
With the new season approaching, Wrexham may well e
