Luka Dončić’s Extension Adjusted to $160.8M Over 3 Years Due to Lower Cap Growth, Still Secures Lakers’ Core

On August 4 (Beijing time), NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an early max extension with franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić. The initial agreement was for 3 years, $165 million, based on projected cap increases.

However, according to CBA expert Bobby Marks, Dončić’s deal includes a “cap projection adjustment clause”, meaning his salary will decrease if the NBA’s salary cap growth fails to hit the projected 10% threshold.

Based on current league estimates, the 2026–27 salary cap is expected to increase by only 7%, leading to an updated contract projection of 3 years, $160.8 million. The breakdown is as follows:

• 2027–28: $53.61 million

Still a Supermax-Level Deal
