OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5 to All Users with “Real-Time Router” and Double Speed for Plus/Team

OpenAI has officially rolled out GPT-5 to Plus, Pro, Team, and free users, with Plus and Team subscribers now enjoying double the previous rate limits. The company also announced that GPT-5 Mini and GPT-5 Thinking modes will launch next week, both already visible in the main mode selector. In addition, GPT-4o has been re-enabled for Plus and Team users, accessible via the “Show Legacy Models” option in ChatGPT’s web settings.

A major new feature, the “real-time router,” automatically selects the most suitable model based on the prompt—delivering either quick answers or more thoughtful, in-depth responses for complex queries. Some users, however, have reported that GPT-5 feels less capable than GPT-4o. CEO Sam Altman explained that this was due to a routing bug at launch, which has since been fixed. He promised improvements to the model-switching logic, ensuring users get the best-fit model and can easily see which one is responding.
