Ten Hag Wronged? Data Shows Amorim’s Manchester United Performing Even Worse

In Premier League Round 2, Manchester United drew 1-1 away at Fulham. With only 1 point from two games, the Red Devils sit 16th in the table, suffering a disappointing start to the season.

Attack Struggles, Saved Only by an Own Goal

United were largely outplayed throughout the match. Their only goal came via a Fulham own goal. Cunha and Mbeumo were ineffective, while substitute Šeško registered almost no impact. In contrast, Fulham’s Zheqairaiš scored twice, highlighting the gulf in efficiency.

Key stats:

  • Since last season, only Genoa (30) have failed to score in the first half more often than United (29) across Europe’s top five leagues.
  • In their last 6 matches, United failed to score in 5 of them through their own players. The only exception was against Aston Villa, when Eriksen and Diallo found the net.
  • Since early April, United have collected just 6 Premier League points, fewer than any other EPL club, and two fewer than relegated Leicester during the same period.

Amorim’s Record Worse Than Ten Hag?

This was Amorim’s 29th league game in charge of United. His record:

  • 7 wins, 7 draws, 15 losses, just 28 points in total (under 1 point per match).
  • Win rate: 24.1%, identical to Neil Warnock, who was relegated twice in the Premier League.

By comparison, Ten Hag’s last 29 EPL matches with United produced 12 wins, 7 draws, 10 losses — clearly better in wins, points, and efficiency. Unsurprisingly, many fans are asking: “Has Ten Hag been unfairly treated?”

Tougher Fixtures Ahead

Next up, United face promoted Burnley, a must-win opportunity. But after the international break, they will take on Manchester City and Chelsea back-to-back, a daunting test.

After the draw, Amorim admitted:

“From the way we started, this draw was very disappointing. After our goal, we focused too much on chasing victory and forgot our original tactical plan.”

Summary

With just 1 point in two games and the league’s worst attacking form, Amorim’s United look far from convincing. Compared to Ten Hag, results have only declined. If things don’t improve quickly, United may once again find themselves struggling to even compete for a top-four spot.
