iPhone 17 Series Fast-Charging Revealed: 50% Power in Just 20 Minutes with New Adapter

Tech media outlet Phone Arena reported on September 16 that Apple’s newly launched iPhone 17 series now supports lightning-fast charging—powering up to 50% in just 20 minutes. The catch? It requires pairing with Apple’s brand-new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (with peak output up to 60W), priced at 329 RMB.

According to Apple’s official data, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max can all reach the 50% mark within 20 minutes, while the lighter iPhone Air takes about 30 minutes to achieve the same. This marks a significant leap forward in charging efficiency for the iPhone lineup.

The powerhouse behind this upgrade is Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. While it can peak at 60W output, that level is only sustained for around 18 minutes before heat management reduces output back down to 40W.

This adapter introduces support for the latest Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) protocol, which allows for more precise voltage adjustments compared to traditional Programmable Power Supply (PPS) standards. The result: faster charging while keeping battery temperatures under control. However, it’s worth noting that the adapter does not support PPS, and is limited to standard USB PD 3.0. This means that when charging certain Android devices or other electronics, users may not experience optimal speeds—an aspect that has drawn some criticism regarding its limited versatility.

By comparison, Google’s Pixel Flex 67W Dual USB-C Fast Charger offers broader compatibility. It supports AVS, USB PD 3.2, and PPS protocols, while also featuring two USB-C ports. At $59.99, it comes at a higher price point, but provides stronger multi-device support and more robust power performance.
