Budget Tesla Model Y Revealed Ahead of Launch — Could Start at ¥200,000 and Shake Up the EV Market

Tesla’s upcoming October 7 event is already stirring global excitement. According to multiple leaks, the spotlight will likely fall on the long-rumored “Model Y Standard” (internal code: E41) — an entry-level SUV designed to make Tesla ownership more accessible than ever before.

Though official details remain under wraps, uncamouflaged photos, website source codes, and configuration leaks have surfaced, giving a clear glimpse of what’s to come.

The Model Y Standard is expected to be Tesla’s most affordable SUV, targeting the ¥200,000–¥300,000 price range in China. In North America, the vehicle is rumored to start at $39,990 (≈ ¥285,000), though analysts believe the actual production price could go lower. If built locally in Shanghai, it may even debut in the ¥200,000–¥260,000 range, making it a true disruptor in the EV segment.

Design-wise, it retains the familiar Model Y silhouette but introduces simplified styling for cost efficiency. The continuous light strip is gone, replaced by sleek integrated headlights. The panoramic glass roof has been swapped for a solid metal top, and new 18-inch “Aperture” wheels aim to boost aerodynamics and energy efficiency.

Inside, Tesla has stripped things down for affordability: manual steering adjustments, fabric seats, a smaller 15.4-inch touchscreen (down from 16"), and manual air vents replace premium features. The HEPA air filter, ambient lighting, and folding mirrors have all been removed.

While some speculate that the event could feature the long-awaited new Roadster, mounting evidence — from photos to Tesla’s website code — strongly suggests the Model Y Standard will take center stage.
